7.9 earthquake hits near US coast
New York, Jan 23 (IBNS): An earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale hit southern Alaskan coast in the US on Tuesday, officials said.
A tsunami alert was issued following the quake.
US Geological Survey website said the quake hit 300km south-east of Kodiak at a depth of 10km at 09:31 GMT.
A tsunami warning is in effect for southeast and south Alaska, including the Alaska peninsula, Aleutian islands and British Columbia in Canada. A tsunami watch is in effect for California, Oregon and Washington, according to the Tsunami Warning Center, CNN reported.
No casualty has been reported so far.
