Cyclone Fani: Indian Navy intensifies rescue operations in Odisha

New Delhi, May 3 (UNI): As cyclone Fani crossed the coast south of Puri in Odisha on Friday morning, Eastern Naval Command (ENC) intensified Rescue Operations in areas between Chilika and Puri.

Additional relief material and medical teams have been augmented to Odisha from Visakhapatnam.

INS Ranvijay and Airavat with integral helicopters have also sailed from Visakhapatnam with relief material including medical stores and Medical Teams and are proceeding to Odisha to conjoin the rescue operation with Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri, Ranvir and Kadmatt, an Indian Navy spokesperson said.

Dornier Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft was launched to undertake an aerial survey to assess the impact of the cyclone and the extent of the devastation this afternoon.

The relief material mobilised to Odisha thus far includes 10 HADR pallets and 5 Medical pallets sufficient to cater for nearly 1,000 personnel.
