Cyclone Fani : Alert in Assam

Guwahati, May 4 (IBNS): In the wake of the devastating cyclone Fani that hit in Odisha and West Bengal, the Assam government has taken adequate measures and put in high alert across the state.

Incessant rain battered different parts of Assam including Guwahati since Saturday morning which affected the normal life.

According to the Borjhar based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and heavy falls very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on May 4.

Meanwhile, Assam government has directed all the Deputy Commissioners and concerned agencies to stay alert and take all necessary measures for mitigation of any incidents arising out of cyclone Fani.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has put in high alert in the district Control Rooms with Toll Free No 1077 and State Control Room with Toll Free Nos 1070 and 1079 with round the clock operations.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) Project Manager Muktaram Deka said that, the ASDMA is ready to tackle any situation and put in high alert in all districts with opened district level and state level control rooms.

“In the wake of cyclone Fani, we have alerted across the state with round the clock operations and man power has also been increased. All the Deputy Commissioners of the districts have been warned and put in alert. NDRF and SDRF teams are also being alerted and they are also ready,” Deka said.
