Indian Summer: Showers bring respite from scorching heat in Jammu

Jammu, May 11 (UNI) People in the winter capital of the state on Saturday heaved a sigh of relief after a light spell of rains brought down the mercury, which was above normal by five degrees.

For the past one week, Jammu was reeling under the hot weather conditions as the temperature was hovering between 36 degrees and 40 degrees Celsius.

The residents woke up to a pleasant weather with heavy cloud cover and a light spell of rain bringing some relief from the scorching heat.

The Meteorological department has forecast light rain or thundershowers at many places in Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours.

On May 9, Jammu recorded season's maximum at 40.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 25.5 degrees which was 3 to 4 degrees above normal, said a weatherman.

On Friday, the maximum temperature was 38.4 degrees which dipped to 3 to 5 degrees following the showers.
