Guwahati, July 10 (IBNS): The floods in Assam have claimed three lives in the past 24 hours and affected over 2.07 lakh people in 11 districts of the state.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two persons drowned in flood waters in Dhemaji and Golaghat district and one person died in a landslide incident in Kamrup (Metro) district.
Also, three people are missing after a country-made boat capsized in Siang Lili river at Jonai area in the flood hit Dhemaji district.
The SDRF team and local residents are engaged in a search operation to locate the missing persons.
Over 2.07 lakh people across 530 villages in 11 districts of the state – Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat, Biswanath, Majuli, Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Darrang, Nalbari and Chirang – have been affected by the floods.
A total of 86,554 people have been affected alone in Dhemaji district, while 52,685 people affected in Lakhimpur district, 26,454 people have been affected in Majuli district.
The flood waters submerged over 13,267 hectare of crop lands.
Following incessant rains, the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are flowing above danger level mark at many places in the state.
The administration has set up 13 relief camps in the flood-hit districts.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland from July 10 to July 14.
