Assam flood situation improves, death count now 83

Guwahati, July 26 (IBNS): The flood situation in Assam has improved with the water levels in the flood-hit areas receding. However, over 27 lakh people are still bearing the brunt of the flood.

With five more deaths, the death toll stands at 83 now.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two people drowned in flood waters in Baksa district while one each died in Barpeta, Cachar and Biswanath district in the past 24 hours.

A total of 2078 villages in 61 revenue circles and 1,22,835 hectares of crop land are still under water.

As many as 768 relief camps are operational in the districts of Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat and Jorhat districts with 1,58,896 inmates and 161 relief distribution centres in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Bongaigaon,  Kokrajhar,  Kamrup and Morigaon.
