In relief for north Karnataka, flood level comes down in Krishna basin
Belagavi, Sept 11 (UNI): People living on the banks of River Krishna in North Karnataka heaved a sigh of relief as floods that affected hundreds of villages for the second time during the current monsoon came down steadily since last 24 hours.
Sitiation in worst affected Chikkodi and Athani taluks in the district witnessed marked decrease in flood levels as release from from dams and barrages in the upper Maharashtra state that brought relief to the people in Belagavi district, officials said.
Sources said, Water flowing on one or two bridge cum barrages in Athani, Chikkodi but water level slowly come down and indulged bridges cum barrages. Total water discharging from Maharashtra Dams 1,98,238 cusecs on Wednesday morning.
Maharastra releasing water to Karnataka rivers from its main dams, like, Koyna, warna, Dhom kanher, Urmod,i Tarali, Radhanagari, Kumbhi, Kasari, Kadavi, Tulashi, Kalammawadi, Patagaon, Chikotra dams. In addition to this flow coming from catchment area on downstream side of above dams will contribute. Total discharge will be around 60,000 cusecs tomorrow at Kallol barrage.
All other Damas of Markandeya, Hiranyakeshi, Hidkal, Navutheertha reached its full level and water discharging more water as a precautionary by the authorities.
In Bagalkot, the present Almatti Dam inflow was at 1,70,000 cusecs and outflow 45,000 cusecs.
