PoK earthquake: Death toll touches 37

Islamabad: The death toll in the earthquake, which hit Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on Tuesday, has touched 37, media reports said on Wednesday.

The quake left 500 others injured.

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale hit Pakistan-India border region on Tuesday as tremors were felt in the Indian capital New Delhi and other parts of north India.

The casualty was reported from Pakistan.

No casualty was reported in India.

Pakistan's Geo News reported, "Near Mirpur, roads were completely destroyed and vehicles overturned by the tremors while bridges, mobile phone towers, and electricity poles were also badly damaged in the melee."

People on Tuesday rushed out from their homes as tremors were felt in Pakistani cities like Islamabad and Lahore.

Tremors were also felt in Rawalpindi, Murree, Jhelum, Charsadda, Swat, Khyber, Abbottabad, Bajaur, Nowshera, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar and Kohistan, reported Geo News.

PM Imran Khan had condoled loss of lives in the tragedy.

He tweeted: "Saddened to learn of the earthquake and the loss of precious lives. My condolences go to the families of the victims & prayers for an early recovery of the injured. I have directed our govt to ensure fast and immediate relief for the affectees & damage assessment."
