UNICEF organizes health and sanitation awareness program for women and children in West Bengal
The program highlighted the vital role religious faith can play in spreading awareness among the most vulnerable sections of the society on important issues.
The religious groups that participated in this program include Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Buddhists.
Shweta Dey, PPE specialist of UNICEF provided statistical data on this matter highlighting the situation of women and children including the issues faced by women during and after child birth and the way they are deprived of basic amenities like professional medical care or a hygienic habitation after childbirth.
M. Asadur Rahman, Chief of UNICEF said, “We want to reach out to the vulnerable segment of the society which includes women and children, through religious leaders who can spread awareness among them easily”.
