National Family Health Survey: Tobacco use in WB comes down

New Delhi, Jan 28 (IBNS) Consumption of tobacco has come down by a little more than 11 per cent in West Bengal, according to the recent reports released by the National Family Health Survey.

Also the rate of alcohol consumption in men has taken a dip, scoring 28.7 per cent, bettering its previous 34 per cent recorded in the last survey.

However, the survey report suggests that women in Bengal risk being anaemic, with anaemia percentage going as high as 62.5 per cent, a little below than the previous reading of 63.2.

Rural women are the worst hit in these cases, while the city dwellers registers 58.2 percent, their rural counterparts surges ahead with 64.4 per cent.

The anemia rate in men is 30.3 per cent, with the same trend of increasing cases in rural areas prevailing.

Another alarming trend is the percentage of children affected by anemia, with 54.2 per cent it scores pretty high.
