Contaminated PHD potable water supply blamed for jaundice outbreak in Odisha's Cuttack

India Blooms News Service | | 03 Mar 2017, 01:13 pm
Bhubaneswar, Mar 3 (IBNS): In Odisha, contaminated potable water supplied by the Public Health Department (PHD) has been allegedly the major cause of jaundice outbreak in Cuttack, according to media reports.

Late in February, more than 100 people were hospitalised in Cuttack with jaundice. The Tulasipura area was the worst affected, media reported.

Investigations revealed that PHD pipelines for potable water passed close to drains, which were broken at many places.

The local administration began supplying drinking water in tankers to the area and sent samples of the piped water for testing.
