Bihar physician to get prestigious WHO award for his research on Kala Azar

Patna, Apr 28 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Noted medical scientist and BJP parliamentarian Dr CP Thakur will be conferred the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for his extensive research in the field of Kalazar.

He is the first Indian medical scientist to get this prestigious award from the WHO. 

The award will be given at an international conference being organized by the WorldLeish-6 Congress Organising Committee under the aegis of WHO, Geneva.

The five-day conference being held at Toledo, Spain will begin from May 16.

According to a Press statement issued from his office, Dr Thakur has been invited by the Leishmania Scientific Committee to participate in the international conference.

The five-day conference will hold debates on topics such as Expression and signal transduction in Leishmaniasis, The present and future of VL Treatment, Sand-fly Leishmania interactions, Molecular basis on virulence and tropism, Quantitative studies of Leishmaniasis transmission and control, Leishmaniasis vaccine pipeline, Challenges on implementation and development of clinical trial, according to Dr George Alvar, chairman of WorldLeish-6 and Dr Javier Moreno, co-chairman.

As per information, Dr Thakur will provide technical information to the participants of world congress on his research on black fever during the workshop.
