Kolkata/IBNS: The total number of COVID 19 infected patients in Kolkata stands at 20 as two more people were tested positive for the disease on Sunday.

According to reports, one of the new COVID 19 infected patients is a doctor.

The doctor reportedly works with the Command Hospital.

Meanwhile, three of the COVID-19 infected patients, who are currently undergoing treatment in Kolkata, are recovering from the disease, sources said.

Sources in West Bengal Health and Family Welfare department on Sunday said that three of state's 17 active Covid-19 infected patients, including Bengal's first 2019-nCoV positive case, are on their way to recovery as their recent swab samples have tested negative.

According to reports, swab samples of these three Covid-19 patients were collected on Saturday and forwarded to the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) for tests, and NICED on Sunday reported negative results.

"The UK returnee 18-year-old youth from Kolkata, who was the first Covid-19 positive case in West Bengal and was detected to be infected by the virus on Mar 17, has tested negative," a senior official of state health department told IBNS.

Meanwhile, state's third Covid-19 positive patient, a young woman from Habra area in Kolkata's neighbouring North 24 Parganas district who recently returned from Scotland and tested positive for 2019-nCoV on Mar 21, and the father of second Covid-19 positive patient, were also found negative for Covid-19.

"It's a very good sign that state's Covid-19 patients are responding to the treatments and three of them are on their way to recover from the disease," a health official said.

"Following WHO's directive, we will send their swab samples to NICED again within next 48 hours and if the reports come negative, we will shift these patients to home quarantine for next 14 days," he said.

"After the 14-day home quarantine period ends, their swab samples will be tested again as per WHO protocol and if those come negative then they will be declared 'completely cured' of novel coronavirus," the official added.

Presently, West Bengal is treating 17 Covid-19 patients. They are undergoing treatments at Beliaghata ID hospital and Peerless Hospital in Kolkata, and North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri.

The state reported its first and so far only death due to coronavirus infection in Kolkata on Mar 23.
