New Delhi/UNI: The total number of COVID-19 infections in India reached to 2,301 on Friday morning, with three fresh casualties and 228 new Coronavirus cases reported across the country till Thursday evening.

According to the health ministry, the total number of confirmed cases on Thursday evening was 2,069.

The death toll has gone up to a total of 56 so far while the active cases in the country at present stand at 2088, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, government data states that 156 people have been cured so far and one person has migrated.

The government on Thursday evening said a total of 9,000 associated with Tablighi Jamaat and their contacts have been identified and sent to quarantined facilities so far.

A Home Ministry official said that the efforts are being made to trace their contacts as the group has emerged COVID-19 hotspot in the country.

"9,000 Tablighi Jamaat workers and their contacts have been identified across the nation and sent to quarantine. Among them 1,306 are foreign nationals," said MHA Joint Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava.

These people had attended a religious congregation organised by the Tablighi Jamaat at the Nizamuddin Markaz last month, which led to a sudden spike in coronavirus cases across the country.

Scores of people, who attended a religious gathering here last month, have found to be infected with the deadly virus.

State-wise, Maharashtra remains the worst affected with 335 positive cases and 13 deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu with 309 with one casualty.
