BioAsia to organize Healthcare Devthon

Hyderabad, Dec 29 (IBNS): BioAsia 2015 on Monday announced the Healthcare Devthon in Hyderabad with a focus on Idea validation, Design and Rapid prototyping of Technologies and solutions relevant to the life- sciences & healthcare sector.

The Healthcare Devthon will be organized by BioAsia with the support of HYSEA, Healthcare Innovation Cell-Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Telangana, D-Labs incubator (ISB), Apollo Research and Innovation, Kamineni Life Sciences, Technology Business Incubator@ BITS  Pilani Hyderabad and Hyderabad Hackers to facilitate the development of products and services to address the present needs of the industry.

The winners of Devthon will be rewarded with seed fund grant of Rs. 2 lakhs.

The event will address the challenges in healthcare sector and discover solutions that can create an impact on end consumers. The Devthon will bring in healthcare experts, data scientists, researchers, engineers on a single platform to facilitate the developments. 

The Devthon will emphasize on upfront validation of the ideas being built to generate relevant solutions and products. The Healthcare Devthon is expected to witness about 200 participants working on over 50 ideas.

The prototypes will be screened by a panel of healthcare and technology experts. The best prototypes selected by the experts will be showcased at BioAsia 2015. The top prototypes will be mentored and given an opportunity to build real products.

Shakthi Nagappan, CEO, BioAsia, said “As another step towards encouraging innovations in life sciences and healthcare, BioAsia will organize the first of its kind Healthcare Devthon in Hyderabad. The initiative is aimed at facilitating the development of products and services that address unmet healthcare needs and most importantly spur the innovation quotient of the ecosystem. We chose the Devthon.org format as that is designed for co-creation.”

The Healthcare Devthon during BioAsia will take place in 4 phases: (i) Domain exposure/immersion on January 10th, (ii) Design thinking and ideation on January 17th, (iii) Prototyping on January 24-25 and (iv) Showcasing on February 2-4 at BioAsia 2015.

Surya Rao, Managing Director, Technology Business Incubator, BITS-Hyderabad said, “This initiative adds a new dimension to BioAsia conference and of seeding new ideas and solutions. We are excited to support this Healthcare Devthon, where we aim to bring together clinicians/surgeons, diagnosticians, pharma industry, government and social sector with engineering and design talent. Our goal is to eventually create a truly interdisciplinary platform where healthcare delivery challenges are addressed through validated solutions created at the interface between biology and engineering. We hope to ramp up the participation of India’s healthcare practitioners in the innovation ecosystem."

Speaking on this, Ramesh Loganathan, President HYSEA said that, “IT is playing significant role in bringing positive changes in many fields across the world. I am very excited to see Digital Health and healthcare IT as focus areas at BioAsia 2015 and that HYSEA and HyderabadHackers are a part of this conference.  Hyderabadhackers.in is a HYSEA initiative bringing together all hackathon groups under one umbrella to accelerate creating awareness and excitement around ‘building’ solutions and products."
