COVID-19: 45-yr-old man succumbs in Kashmir, death toll mounts to 29 in J&K

Srinagar/UNI:  A 55-year-old man, a resident of Shopian, died due to COVID-19 in Kashmir valley, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 29.

With this, seven persons have lost their lives due to the infection during the last eight days and 17 people in 16 days in J&K, where the cases have surpassed 2500 mark.

Official sources said that a Shopian resident was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura last night with kidney failure and acute chest infection.

However, they said the patient died on Sunday mid-night at the hospital. “His sample was sent for testing, which came out positive on Monday,” they said, adding the last rites of the patient would be held according to the guidelines issued by MHA.

Ten districts of Jammu have reported three fatalities while 26 people have lost their lived due to the dreaded virus in ten districts of Kashmir.

This is the second death during the last three days in Shopian. Srinagar is the worst affected district in terms of mortality rate with seven deaths due to the infection. Anantnag and Baramulla stands at number two with five deaths each while Kulgam is number three with four deaths.

A 70-year-old man, a resident of Shopian, succumbed at SHMS hospital in Srinagar on May 28, when a 55-year-old man, a resident of Khanpora in Baramulla, tested positive posthumously.

Two people, including a 70-year-old man from Anantnag and 55-year-old man from Srinagar, died on May 27.

On May 26, a 90-year-old man from Kulgam, who tested positive died at a hospital in Srinagar on Monday.

On May 23, a 55-year-old Anantnag woman died in a hospital in the summer capital, Srinagar. A 65-year-old woman from Kulgam in Kashmir and 63-year-old man from Jammu tested positive after their deaths on May 22.

An 80-year-old from Srinagar and a 40-year-old from Budgam, died in separate hospitals due in the summer capital, Srinagar on May 21. On May 18, three people -- including a 65-year-old woman from Kulgam, 75-year-old man and 75-year old woman from Kokernag in Anantnag – succumbed in Chest Disease hospital, Srinagar.
