Secondary Infertility is a bigger problem than thought: Doctor
Speaking at the event Dr. Arindam Rath, Senior Consultant, Nova IVI Fertility, said, “The rise in temperature, lifestyle and the increasing stress are contributors towards infertility.”
He spoke about the female anatomy and the whole cycle of child birth along with the alarming growth of secondary infertility.
Secondary infertility is the term given to a condition in which a couple who were able to have a normal childbirth the first time fails to do so the second time. This may happen due to a lot of factors; some of which are age related issues in case of a female and the decreasing sperm count in case of a male.
However the good news is one who has already conceived is at a better position to conceive again than people who haven’t conceived at all owing to the ovarian reserve which is generally higher in the former’s case.
Dr. Rath also discussed the difference between the Indian an its European and American counterparts. He said, “In European community the difference in the ovarian reserve is huge as compared to the Indian community. The Indian women age faster than its European counterparts, also the use of Oral Contraceptive pills taken by the European women help in preserving their eggs.”
Speaking about In Vitro Fertilization, he said, “Most women in India get themselves sterilized after having a certain number of kids, sterilization can be reversed whose success rate is a paltry 30 percent. In these cases the only way to conceive again is to go for IVF.”
When quizzed about the kind of food one should take in order to prevent infertility, he responded, “Go for food rich in anti-oxidants, lime can be eaten. Avoid junk and put a hold on your cigarettes. It reduces the sperm count.”
The doctor said he is ever ready for helping out couples, but is strictly against people who are more than fifty years of age and want to conceive, since age is a major problem.
To him infertility is oblivious to class, creed and sex and the global ratio is slowly racing towards equilibrium.
To validate his claim he cited from a recent Spanish survey where it has been found that by the year 2050 almost 50 percent of the male population will suffer from infertility globally.
