Kolkata, May 17 (IBNS) : Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Kolkata in association with Kolkata Arthroscopy and Sports Surgery Society, (KASS) will organize an interactive national Hip Preservation Conference for the first time in the country.

The conference, KASSCON 2015 will be held from May 22 - 24 in the east Indian city.

The conference will witness the coming together of 300 delegates from hospitals all over the country along with international faculty from UK, USA, Japan and Singapore who will commence a new dawn of surgical expertise in the east.

Though Hip replacement remains one of the most successful and predictable surgeries in hip problems, it has its own set of complications.

That apart, even successful replacement is compromised by limited longevity and limited mobility like unable to sit on floors, squat or sit cross-legged. These limitations, though pretty much at par with an elderly patient, severely restricts the lifestyle of a young person. The answer to this dilemma is Hip Preservation Surgery.

Hip Preservation Surgery aims to preserve the original hip joint of the patient and restore its biomechanics and mobility so as to give back to the patient all those benefits of a normal hip. It reshapes bones, balls and sockets and returns to the patient what he has lost to disease of the joint.

Speaking on the occasion, Rupali Basu, CEO, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals and Eastern Region, Apollo Hospitals, India said, “Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals has always been committed to bringing healthcare of world class standards to this part of the country. We have successfully pioneered many such initiatives in the east and also in India. KASSCON 2015 is an endeavour to organise various informative seminars and conferences at frequent intervals to provide an opportunity to young doctors in this region to gather knowledge on the latest technology and treatment”.

M.N. Basu Mullick, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals and Convener of KASS said, “This is a new field in orthopedics’ that allows us to diagnose and treat patients with hip disorders, we try to preserve complete use of hip and delay the risk and onset of early arthritis of the hip. We have the knowledge and training to both diagnose and treat the full spectrum of hip diseases. Identifying and treating it early is key in order to preserve hip function. KASSCON 2015 will address common hip injuries in physically active people, as well as treatment strategies to improve care of the patient with hip pain. The sessions will give participants the opportunity to witness live surgeries and rehabilitation techniques, in addition to screening tools used to optimize the patient’s return to activity.”

Sunit Hazra, Assistant Prof. Orthopaedic, RG Kar Medical College, Organizing Secretary- KASSCON 2015, said, “In 2014, KASS organised its first conference on Ankle And Foot Disorders In The Athlete (KASSCON2014), which had massive attendance from all over India and abroad. International delegates and faculty across the board had applauded the unique and interactive nature of the conference as well as the sincerity of the effort behind such an enterprise. It is as a consequence of the same that we are organising KASSCON2015 with the intention of sharing knowledge on the new concept of hip preservation with the larger medical fraternity”.
