India observes National Science Day on Feb 28, celebrates discovery of Raman effect
The National Science Day commemorates the discovery of the 'Raman effect' by Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman in 1928. He won the Nobel Prize in 1930 for his discovery.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Tuesday, " On #NationalScienceDay, my greetings & best wishes to our scientific community. Their role in nation building & advancement is paramount."
Union Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Dr Harsh Vardhan tweeted, " Greetings on the #NationalScienceDay. Day to remember contributions of Bharat Ratna Dr CV Raman and our entire glorious scientific community."
He also tweeted, "Our scientists, thousands of unknown and uncelebrated faces, work tirelessly day & night to help take India forward. The Societal interventions, technological breakthroughs, solutions to challenges- our scientists have provided us all."
M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting tweeted, "Wishes on National Science Day, honouring the great scientist Sir. C. V. Raman. Let us adopt & promote scientific vigour in our daily lives."
Various science museums across the country are holding special programmes to observe the day.
