6.1 earthquake hits Indonesia, no casualty
Jakarta, Dec 16 (IBNS): An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale hit eastern Indonesia on Sunday, as per the U.S. Geological Survey.
As per the USGS, the quake hit 158 km south-southwest of the Province's capital Jayapura at 6.42 p.m.
No casualty has been reported so far.
Due to its position on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, where tectonic plates collide, the country often experiences seismic activity.
Over 2000 people died as a 7.5-magnitude quake and a subsequent tsunami hit Palu on Sulawesi island in September this year.
More than 1000 people are still missing.
