6.3 earthquake hits border area between Iraq and Iran, 350 hurt

Baghdad, Nov 26 (IBNS): At least 350 people were hurt as a 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit the border area between Iraq and Iran on Sunday, as per the US Geological Survey. 

The epicentre of the quake was located at South-South-West of Sarpol-e Zahab city of Iran.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake occurred 17 kilometers from Sar Pol-e Zahab and 18 kilometers from Qasr-e Shirin and 33 kilometers from Gilan-e Gharb, Ilam and Kermanshah provinces, at 20:07 (16:37 GMT) hours local time on Sunday, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

The tremor was also felt in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and in Kuwait The Jerusalem Post reported.

Buildings have been reportedly damaged in several parts of Iran.

Managing director of Kermanshah Red Crescent Society Arash Lahouni told IRNA that fortunately the quake left nobody killed and those injured are currently receiving treatment.
