Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals excels in stroke emergency
Satyajit Roy was suffering from complete paralysis of right side of the body and slurred speech when he was referred as an emergency to Apollo Gleneagles by Kalpataru Hospital, Barasat.
The stroke team at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital led by Shankar Loharuka administered the right treatment at the right time and managed to save his life which was otherwise in danger.
The patient was able to move his arms and legs within three hours of the treatment, was back to normal the next day and was discharged within a short span of three days.
On the contrary, failure to treat him could have caused a permanent paralysis with loss of work and life-long disability with a tremendous economic and emotional burden to the family. This treatment saved him from an imminent disaster.
Jayanta Roy, Senior Consultant Neurologist & Stroke specialist, In-Charge of Apollo Gleneagles Comprehensive Stroke Center, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, said,” Our society is low on awareness about stroke and does not do enough to stop this devastating disease from spreading though it is largely preventable. Every country around the globe follows some standard protocol with regard to stroke management. However, the lack of awareness makes timely treatment of stroke challenging.”
