Army sensitises troops on safe food practices on World Health Day
Taking a leaf out of this year’s WHO theme - “Food safety: From farm to plate, make food safe”, the interactive session included practical demonstration of home-based techniques for detection of food adulteration in regular food products such as milk, pulses, fruits, vegetables and sweets.
A lucid presentation laying stress on procurement of right kind of food stuff, hygienic practices to be adopted by food handlers while cooking, understanding of food adulteration and spectrum of disorders that can arise including how to mitigate them by reporting it to regulatory bodies was explained to all.
Brig Akshay Bhargava, Senior Executive Medical Officer and Deputy Commandant, Command Hospital, Kolkata who set the preamble at the start of the session, impressed upon the need to adopt safe and hygienic practices, especially considering that a large number of troops mostly eat in messes.
