Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Agricultural University (AAU) has introduced a pioneering technology that produces tea powder from raw tea leaves.

The brainchild of Dr. Aditi Smith Gogoi, an associate professor in the Department of Tea Husbandry and Technology, this pioneering technique is set to invigorate Assam's tea economy and usher in a windfall for over 500 organic tea cultivators in the region, reports Sentinel Assam.

Dr. Gogoi's ingenious approach employs an economical and uncomplicated method that lends itself perfectly to adoption by small-scale tea farmers. The process involves the transformation of tea leaves into a fine powder through drying and grinding.

The resulting tea powder, endowed with antioxidants, stands as a potent shield against various diseases, amplifying its health benefits. Moreover, it serves as a robust source of caffeine, bestowing consumers with an energizing uplift.

The implications of this breakthrough are profound for both the tea industry and the state of Assam. By integrating this technology, tea cultivation is poised to undergo a remarkable renaissance.

As expressed by a tea planter, the advent of tea powder technology holds the promise of renewed opportunities for modest tea farmers, rekindling the very core of Assam's tea economy.

The advantages of tea powder aren't confined to producers alone; consumers are also poised to reap the rewards. This innovation ushers in a more convenient and budget-friendly method of savoring tea. Its prolonged shelf life and ease of transport translate to a hassle-free experience for individuals.

This user-friendly transformation of tea consumption is predicted to augment the reach of Assam's tea products, both locally and beyond state borders.

“The development of tea powder technology is a significant achievement for Assam Agricultural University. It is a testament to the university’s commitment to research and innovation."

"The technology is expected to have a major impact on the tea industry in Assam and beyond,” said the varsity official.

With the potential to rejuvenate Assam's tea economy and its array of benefits for both producers and consumers, this innovation marks a significant stride towards a more accessible, convenient, and prosperous tea industry.
