Assam Covid-19 tally nears 1 lakh, lockdown likely in southern parts

Guwahati/UNI: The Covid-19 tally in Assam is nearing one lakh figure as the state managed to conduct 20 lakhs tests so far.

The overall tally in the state has reached 92,619 with detection of 1879 new cases in the last 24 hours.

The number of recovered patients has also increased at the same time, with the figure now standing at 73,90 per cent

The death toll related to the virus stands at 252, while the number of active cases in below 19,000.

The state has conducted over 20 lakhs coronavirus tests so far, with the test per million being 58,356.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has planned to impose a nine-day lockdown in two districts Halikandi and Karimganj from Aug 26 and in Cachar district from Aug 27 till Sept 4.

The 10-day total lockdown will come into effect in full force in three districts of Barak Valley districts–Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts from Aug 27.

The lockdown in the region, which is also an entry point to the neighbouring states Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, would affect goods and other movements to these states as well.
