Assam flood: Union Jal Shakti minister conducts aerial review, around 43 lakh people affect
Guwahati, July 16 (IBNS): Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Tuesday conducted an aerial review of the flood situation in Assam.
Around 43 lakh people of 30 districts of the state are affected in the devastating flood.
Fifteen people have lost their lives due to flood and landslide in the state so far.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 4157 villages in 113 revenue circles of 30 districts in the state have been affected in the current flood.
The affected districts are – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Udalguri, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, West Karbi Anglong, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, South Salmara, and Dhubri.
Barpeta, Dhubri, Morigaon, South Salmara, Darrang, Nalbari, Bongaigaon are the worst-hit districts among the flood-hit districts in the state.
Over 9.96 lakh people have been affected alone in Barpeta district, while, 9.37 lakh people affected in Dhubri, around 5.63 lakh people in Morigaon, 1.83 lakh people in South Salmara, 1.74 lakh people in Darrang, 1.64 lakh people in Nalbari, 1.46 lakh people in Bongaigaon have been affected in Lakhimpur district.
The flood waters have submerged 1,50,213 hectare crop lands.
Over 19 lakh big and small animals have been affected in the current flood.
The administration has set up 183 relief camps and 311 relief distribution centres in the flood-hit districts and a total 83,180 people have taken shelter in the camps.
