Assam: Pregnant woman carried over 9 km to hospital in table tied to hand-cart
Guwahati, Aug 13 (IBNS): Two days ahead of India's 72nd Independence Day, in Assam the family members of a pregnant woman were forced to carry her to a government run hospital in a hand-cart by crossing three rivers and 9 km of roads.
The incident took place along the bordering area of Lakhimpur and Majuli districts, the assembly constituency represented by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
According to the reports, due to dilapidated conditions of roads, family members of the pregnant woman Dipali Doley hailing from Jugibari village in Lakhimpur district have been forced to take her to a government run hospital in river island district Majuli by tying her to a table on a hand-cart.
The people of several remote villages of Lakhimpur and Majuli districts are facing communication problems since Independence.
Due to worst condition of roads, no ambulance could make it to the Jugibari village, from where the pregnant woman hails.
The family members of the lady carried her to the Pitambar Deva Goswami civil hospital at Gormur in Majuli in a hand-cart by crossing three rivers and 9 km of roads.
An ASHA worker said, they are facing lots of problem and this is common for the villagers of bordering areas of Lakhimpur and Majuli districts.
On February 6 this year, in Majuli, the family members were forced to carry the body of a 50-year-old man on a cart from the government run hospital at Kamalabari and travelled over 7 km due to the absence of ambulance.
Earlier in April, 2017 a man had forced to carry the body of his brother on bicycle due to absence of ambulance.
