Child's death at Barasat hospital: Authority issues show-cause notice

Kolkata/Barasat, Feb 13 (IBNS): Days after an eight-month-old baby girl died at Barasat State General Hospital, the hospital authority has issued show-cause notice to one doctor, two staff nurses and one house-staff.

"This was a very sad and unfortunate incident. After preliminary investigation, we have come to know that few hospital-staffers' negligence was responsible for the child's death. We have issued show-cause notice already and necessary steps will be taken," one senior health official of Barasat State General Hospital told IBNS.

A child- Soheni Sultana- died on Wednesday in the government-owned Barasat hospital in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district as a free-ambulance's (Nischay Yan) driver allegedly haggled with her family members for fare charges and additional tips.

Besides hospital authority, police are also investigating the matter. The accused ambulance-driver is still absconding, reports said.
