China: Air India jumbo 747 flies to evacuate Indians from Coronavirus-hit Wuhan
New Delhi/UNI: An Air India Jumbo Boeing-747 is flying on Friday to evacuate Indians from the locked-down Wuhan, the city at the centre of the outbreak of the new coronavirus in China.
"The national carrier once again comes to the rescue - this time to evacuate Indians from Wuhan, the site of the outbreak of coronavirus. This mission begins today with a Jumbo 747 operating between Delhi and Wuhan,” Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani said in a tweet.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had seemed permission for operating two flights to bring back Indian citizens from the virus-affected city in China.
The MEA has also reached out to over 600 Indians living in the Hubei province.
At least 213 have died in China and several countries have announced plans to evacuate their citizens from Wuhan.
The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a global emergency.
