COVID-19 situation may worsen in Pakistan in next two weeks: Top doctor warns
Islamabad/IBNS: A top doctor in Pakistan has warned that COVID-19 outbreak situation in the country will be highly alarming in next 2 weeks.
Already hospital beds in Karachi have reached saturation point and over 163 doctors and paramedics have been found positive for the disease, sources said.
Dr. Sad Noaz of Pakistan Medical Association said the difference betwèen the West and Pakistan is that most of the patients in Pakistan are below age of 60.
There is no medical facility in Pakistan and COVID-19 vaccine is still remote, he said.
He stressed the need for complete lockdown and social distancing.
In view of the coming Ramadan ( April 24), he urged people to remain vigilant.
He said that doctors are very disappointed.
Another doctor said that number of Corona patients started increasing ever since lockdown has been eased.
He regretted that doctors are not being provided PPEs.
He alerted that on demanding for PPEs, they are asked to quit jobs.
He demanded strict lockdown and prevention of all kinds of congregations across the country to stop the spread of the disease.
Dr Atif of PIMA urged Ulema to reconsider their decision of holding Taraveeh prayers at mosques.
Further, a Khatib of the mosque, who delivers the sermon, and his family were found positive.
The Mosque is Babul Islam Mosque and seminary. Its Khatib is Qaim Ali Shah, whose father had died few days back, and his Coronavirus test was found positive.
As a result, the family was tested. After results were found positive masjid and madrassa were sealed.
Assessment for Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, appears moving towards a spike after crossing the official figure of 10000.
"This figure as per assessments and reports may be exponential and by end of this month it can be over 20000 with casualties around 500. Presently doubling rate of patients is 10 days," sources said.
