Doctor who conducted eye surgeries in Gurdaspur camp arrested

Amritsar, Dec 5 (IBNS): As report of at least 15 people losing their eye sights after they underwent a cataract surgery at an eye camp organized by an NGO in Punjab's Gurdaspur district came to light, the doctor, who performed the surgeries has been arrested, reports said.

A case against Sri Krishna Eye Hospital in Mathura where the doctor, Dr Vivek Arora, works has also been registered.

This came after at least 15 people  have lost their eye sights after they underwent a cataract surgery at an eye camp organized by  an NGO in Punjab's  Gurdaspur district recently, media reports said on Friday.

All the patients belong to Gagomahal village.

“All 15 patients have gone completely blind and there is no chance of their eyesight getting restored,” Amritsar civil surgeon Rajiv Bhalla told Hindustan Times.

According to reports, the incident came to light on  Thursday after members of the Kisan Sangharash Samiti brought the patients to deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat.

Following  tests by eye specialists at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Amritsar, it was reveled that the patients have lost their eye sights.
