In highest-ever single-day spike, Delhi reports 306 deaths, 26000 fresh infections
New Delhi/IBNS: Amid its battle with the second wave of Covid-19 and oxygen crisis at several hospitals, Delhi on Thursday reported 306 deaths due to the virus, the highest single-day fatality in the national capital since the pandemic's outbreak.
During this, period, the city recorded a whopping 26,000 fresh infections taking the caseload to 9,56,348, of which 91,618 are active cases.
The total fatality toll has been pushed up to 13,193.
The national capital has been logging over 25,000 cases for days now amid a massive crisis of shortage of beds and oxygen supply.
Outside many hospitals, desperate patients could be seen waiting, many in tears, appealing for a bed to get their loved ones admitted.
India reported the world's highest-ever single-day surge with 3,14,835 new cases, pushing the total infections to 1,59,30,965, Union Health Ministry data reported on Thursday.
According to the United States Centers for Disease Control (USCDC), the new cases are the highest single-day rise reported anywhere in the world. The highest yet for the USA was +3,13,310 on January 8, 2021.
In yet another record, 2,104 deaths were reported in the past 24 hrs, taking the overall death toll to 1,84,657.
