India records 92,596 new COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours

New Delhi: India reported 92,596 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours as per Ministry of Health released data on Wednesday.

During the same period, 2219 deaths were also reported due to the highly infectious disease.

The death toll due to the disease now in the country stands at 3,53,528.

India recorded 86,498 cases a day before which was the lowest figure in 66 days.

In the past 24 hours, 1,62,664 people were discharged from hospital.

There are 12,31,415 active cases in the country at present.

India is witnessing a deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic where people struggled for hospital beds and oxygen supplies.

The increase in deaths during this phase even put pressure on burial grounds and crematoriums.
