India reports over 24,000 Covid-19 cases, 312 deaths in 24 hours
New Delhi/IBNS: India on Thursday reported over 24,000 Covid-19 cases taking the overall tally of infections 1,01,23,778.
In 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, 24,712 infections were reported from across the country.
With 312 deaths apparently due to the virus, the toll has touched 1,46,756.
The national recovery percentage increased to 95.69 as 96,93,173 people have so far recovered from the disease.
Amid an alarm over the new strain of coronavirus first detected and rapidly spreading in Britain, 22 people who returned from the United Kingdom in the last few days tested positive for Covid-19.
Eleven people who came from or via the UK have tested positive in Delhi, eight in Amritsar, two in Kolkata and one in Chennai, reports said.
The government has, however, stated that there have been no confirmed cases of the mutant strain anywhere in India so far.
The new strain is believed to be 70 per cent more infectious and was first detected in the United Kingdom in September last.
