New Delhi, Nov 20 (IBNS): Telecom tower company Indus Towers on Thursday announced the expansion of its green initiatives to 35,000 green sites (diesel free) across 15 circles in the country.
Through its various initiatives to enable communications through sustainable green solutions in India, Indus has been able to reduce carbon emissions, consumption of diesel and save energy across all such sites.

Indus Towers said that it has been able to reduce consumption of 54 million liters of diesel per annum as well as 140 million kgs worth of carbon emissions.

The energy thus saved is equivalent to planting 3.5 million trees thereby creating a cleaner environment in the country. The company through its initiatives has managed to convert around 30% of its total tower sites into green sites, which is larger than the total number of towers of some of the tower companies operating in the country.

Speaking of the milestone achieved, B S Shantharaju, Chief Executive Officer, Indus Towers, said, “Indus has been constantly working towards providing green and eco-friendly telecommunication services in the country. This milestone is another step into the direction of achieving a greener environment. With the pace at which we are progressing we aim to achieve even higher and better results in the upcoming year, creating a greener connected India for all.”

Also sharing his views on this Bimal Dayal, Chief Operating Officer, Indus Towers said, “Indus has always been committed towards providing the best-in-class network services to the subscribers. Keeping in line with our commitment we put in a lot of effort in ensuring that our uptime is not affected. Green Sites is another initiative which is targeted towards providing a cleaner environment ensuring seamless connectivity at the same time.”

Indus Towers operates over 1.14 lakh towers across the country and the company has been a standout leader in the telecom tower industry in India. Indus has been widely recognized for its green sites initiatives by industry bodies like the GSM Association, KPMG-Qimpro and Amity amongst others. Going forward the company aims to continue its efforts in this direction.
