Jammu and Kashmir: People not wearing masks are being tested for COVID-19 in Srinagar
Srinagar/UNI: Concerned over reports that majority people are not following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the health department officials are conducting COVID-19 tests of all those who are not wearing masks in Srinagar.
Officials of health department were seen conducting COVID tests in the civil lines, including historic Lal Chow Gantaghar on Saturday. Anyone seen not wearing masks was being called by health department officials and go through the test.
However, those wearing masks properly were being spared and allowed to go.
Similarly, shopkeepers who were not wearing masks were also tested for COVID-19.
Though majority shopkeepers have put up sign board that customers without masks are not allowed, but unmasked people could also be seen inside these shops.
Tourists moving around without masks were also tested in the civil lines.
We have directions to conduct COVID-19 tests of any person without mask, the health department officials said.
Recently reports suggest that only less than five per cent are wearing masks in Srinagar and those attending official and political meetings are also ignoring social distancing, wearing masks and other SOPs.
The administration is recovering of a fine of Rs 2 lakhs to Rs 3 lakh every day from the COVID SOP violators in the Kashmir valley, where 122 fresh cases were reported on Friday.
