J&K: Flood alert sounded in Srinagar
The alert was sounded after rains caused water levels of Jhelum river to rise late on Monday.
State Irrigation and Flood Control division said that water level at Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh was about to touch 21 and 18 feet, the flood declaration level fixed by the department at the gauge site.
Chief Engineer Javed Jafar told IBNS,that water level at Sangam was flowing at 20.95 ft while Munshi Bagh at 19.10 ft.
According to reports, heavy rainfall and snowfall is also being reported from Kargil in the Ladakh Division.
Earlier, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Kashmir has directed all the concerned field employees to immediately report for duty in their respective places.
The department has asked people living on the banks of the river and in other low lying areas of south and central Kashmir to be alert.
