Kolkata: CMRI conducts two- day long discourse on respiratory diseases
Spread across two days, this scientific programme saw medical practitioners from all over Eastern India and the rest of the country come together and participate in contributing to a discourse on recent advances made by the medical community in the area of pulmonary diseases.
Jasodhara Ghosh, Vice President-Operations at CMRI made a fitting start emphasising the need to spread awareness among the larger citizenry on the symptoms of pulmonary diseases, at the same time underlining how prevention at an earlier stages is always the best possible step towards a healthier future.
The two-day initiative is in continuation with the academic endeavours undertaken by CMRI, two earlier such initiatives being the updates on Neuroscience and Biliary update respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjan Das, Senior Pulomologist at CMRI said, “The World Health organization (WHO) has mentioned COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) to be the major killer by 2020, courtesy tobacco smoke and atmospheric pollution. Aasthma as a result of allergies, change of weather or inducement of stress is also another major pulmonary issue that is on the rise. However, the major pulmonary diseases are preventable and treatable, just that one needs to be aware of the symptoms and consult a medical expert the moment such symptoms occur. “
Expressing a similar line of thought and concern,Pawan Agarwal, Senior Pulmologist at CMRI remarked, “ Besides asthmatic and pollution related pulmonary diseases, lifestyle diseases related to obesity are also contributing heavily to problems such as Sleep Apnoea Syndrome and with it comes a host of other diseases such as cardiac issues, strokes, hypertension and diabetes. The best possible way to combat pulmonary diseases is to ensure a healthy diet and lifestyle and monitor and report the slightest of disturbances.”
