Magnitude 6.9 earthquake hits Taiwan, no casualty
Taipei: An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale hit Taiwan on Sunday, triggering panic in the region where it was felt.
The September 18, 2022, M 6.9 earthquake south-east of Lugu, Taiwan, occurred as the result of strike-slip faulting at shallow depth, near the plate boundary between the Philippine Sea and Eurasia plates at the southeast coast of Taiwan, read the USGS website.
The quake was registered at 6:44 GMT. The center of the quake was about 52.2 miles (86 kilometers) east of Yujing district at a depth of about 6.2 miles.
There is a threat of a possible tsunami.
No casualty has been reported so far.
