Maharashtra to give free Covid-19 vaccine to all in state
Mumbai/IBNS: With over 60,000 Covid-19 cases daily, Maharashtra will vaccinate all the people of the state for free, state's minister Nawab Malik said Sunday.
Malik said the move has been discussed with the state Cabinet and global tenders will be floated soon for the mass vaccination drive.
Earlier, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray had said that a third wave of COVID-19 was anticipated though it could not be predicted if it would be as strong as or weaker than the second wave. Vaccination does not help right away but it would help fight the pandemic better in future, he had emphasised.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a high level meeting last week stressed that vaccination was "the biggest weapon" in battling coronavirus and urged doctors to encourage more and more patients to get the shots.
Till April 19, Maharashtra had vaccinated 1,22,83,050 people.
A total of 14,09,16,417 vaccine doses have been administered in 20,19,263 sessions, the Centre's provisional report till 7 am Sunday showed.
Other states who have promised free vaccines are Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Assam, Sikkim, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Haryana.
