Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam hospitals to have high-capacity oxygen plants: Director Health Services Kashmir

Srinagar: Director Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather Wednesday visited District Hospital Pulwama and took stock of the oxygen generation plant there.

A statement of DHSK issued here said quoted Rather as saying that the plant currently supplying 300 LPM would soon generate 1300 LPM.

He visited the construction site of the oxygen generation plant and directed the executing agency to expedite the work on a war-footing basis so that the plant is functional in a stipulated time.

Rather inaugurated the high-end biomedical equipment recently supplied by JKMSCL to District Hospital Pulwama.

He also took stock of the high-end medical equipments supplied by World Bank to the hospital. Rather also visited District Hospital Shopian wherein he took stock of 1000 LPM oxygen generation plant site and laid stress on the executing agency to finish the task soon.

He also inaugurated 8-bedded dialysis center at the District Hospital Shopian.

The human resource designated for the dialysis center are currently undergoing training in SMHS and should be joining back soon to make the center functional.

Later, Rather visited the Public Health Centre Turku vaccination center wherein he interacted with the healthcare workers and laid stress on the staff to enhance awareness activities and vaccination target.

After completing Shopian visit, Rather inspected the District Hospital Kulgam and took stock of COVID-19 preparedness there.

The district health administration apprised him about the status of arrangements and plans devised to tackle COVID-19 resurgence.

Rather said that the oxygen generation capacity of District Hospital Kulgam should soon be increased from 300 LPM to 2000 LPM.

He completed his tour by inspecting the Trauma Hospital Bijbehara which is designated as dedicated COVID-19 hospital, Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara, Anantnag and Sub-District Hospital Pampore.

He took stock of COVID-19 preparedness and other healthcare preparedness and directed the administration to ensure smooth functioning of the healthcare services.

To manage effectively COVID-19 resurgence crisis, the DHSK had earlier constituted a task force with a mandate to ensure that oxygen plants across all major peripheral hospitals of Kashmir division were installed in the set time frame.

The DHSK statement said that in that context, work pertained to JLNM Hospital Srinagar, Sub-District Hospital Sopore and District Hospital Pulwama have been completed and are functional or in the process of getting functional by the end of April.

It said that the executing agencies had assured the DHSK that the remaining plants should be made functional in the shortest possible time.
