Second coronavirus case reported in Kerala
Thrissur/UNI: With India's second case of coronavirus reported in Kerala, medical officers in Thrissur have stepped up the monitoring and supervision of all suspected patients even as the condition of the affected girl student in the isolation ward of medical college is reported stable.
Agriculture minister V S Sunil Kumar and local government affairs minister A C Moideen, supervising the situation in the district told newsmen that a total of 22 people are in isolation wards of medical college and general hospitals. Besides, a total of 152 people are kept under observation in their homes.
Mr Sunil kumar said samples of 30 suspected have been sent to Alappuzha virology institute, and 8 of them found negative.
He said 38 others who have travelled with the affected girl student from China were identified and they have been given proper advice.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested two more people from the district for allegedly spreading false news on social media. Earlier, three persons were arrested for the said crime.
On Thursday, Kerala reported India's first case of coronavirus, a medical student studying in China's Wuhan city, the epicenter of the outbreak. She was quarantined at a hospital in Thrissur after she "self-reported" throat infection.
Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja this morning said they were yet to get a confirmation on the second case reported from Alappuzha."
Over 1,900 people are under surveillance at their homes in Kerala for possible exposure to the virus. Seventy people are being monitored in isolation wards across the state.
