Tamil Nadu records 5,967 fresh Covid-19 infections, 97 deaths

Chennai/UNI: Tamil Nadu on Monday recorded 5,967 new coronavirus positive cases, taking its cumulative tally to 3,85,352 while the death toll mounted to 6,614 with 97 more patients succumbed to the virus.

The health department in its bulletin said of the 97 deaths, 67 were reported in government hospitals and 30 in private hospitals.

Of the 5,967 total cases on Monday, 5,941 were indigenous ones and 26 were imported – those who returned from abroad and other states by air and by road.

The total number of active cases stood at 53,282.

A total of 70,023 samples were tested in the last 24 hours by RT-PCR, taking the total number of samples tested till date to 42,76,640.

With 6,129 patients discharged today, a record number of 3,25,456 patients have recovered from the infection till date.

Chennai recorded 1,277 cases on Monday, taking the total cases to 1,26,677.

The neighbouring district of Thiruvallur recorded 320 cases, Chengalpattu 306 while Kancheepuram reported 226 cases.
