Washington/UNI/Sputnik: The United States will donate three COVID-19 vaccine shots to match every dose used at home, bringing up the total to over 1.1 billion, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday.

"Today, the United States is doubling our total number of global donated vaccines to more than 1.1 billion. For every shot we've put in an American arm to date, we are donating three shots globally," he tweeted.

US President Joe Biden told the UN General Assembly on Tuesday that the only way to beat the virus was by acting together.

He said he would announce additional commitments at a virtual COVID-19 summit that his country will host on Wednesday.
