Rock percussionist Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee receives Pandit Manmohan Bhatt Memorial Award

Kolkata, Aug 10 (IBNS): Sangeet Kala Niketan presented the Pandit Manmohan Bhatt Memorial Award to rock percussionist Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee for his contribution to Indian Classical  and Fusion Music.

Grammy winner, Padmabhushan Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt, son of late Pandit Manmohan Bhatt, was present at the award ceremony held in Jaipur, recently.

Sangeet Kala Niketan, a 70-year old institution working to preserve and promote Indian classical music, presented the award to 16 people from various genres.

After receiving the award, Mukherjee expressed his gratitude to Sangeet Kala Niketan and Jaipur and thanked father-son duo Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Pandit Salil Bhatt.

Mukherjee, himself a GiMa award winner, said, "I salute the musical lineage of this great family."
 
Vishwamohan Bhatt and Mukherjee share a long musical association.

They have worked on the GIMA award winning musical venture Rhythm Express (Moods).

Then they teamed up for Rhythm Express- music for dance, in which Odissi exponent Dona Ganguly lent her voice for a few 'bol taan'.

Mukherjee, who performs frequently at home and aboard, has won accolades for his Rhythm Express Fusion performances

Some of the popular compositions include Journey, Indian Blues, Divine Romance, and Express.

Mukherjee recently toured the UK, China, Canada and the US with his Rhythm Express band.
