Actor and activist Sheena Chohan, who is a passionate advocate of mandatory human rights education and awareness, in her most recent campaign - podcast "Born Free and Equal" - discussed issues of human rights with stars from the Hindi film industry, including Sonakshi Sinha, Preety Zinta, Raveena Tandon, Imtiaz Ali, Sonu Sood, R Balki and others.

"Each star discussed a different right, for example Sonakshi took up the Right to Education, and they then posted the link to their podcast to their millions of followers, led to over a hundred million people in India finding out about their rights," says Sheena.

According to the actor everything starts with awareness and education.

"If we are aware of our rights, and have been educated in detail about that right, we can stand up and demand for those rights. The rights in the Indian constitution and the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights are designed to make our country and world a fair and just place to live. So, if we all do our bit to learn and spread awareness about them, we actually work towards realising the dreams of those who wrote the Constitution," she opines.

"That's why I used my speech at the United Nations to call for mandatory human rights education in the entire South Asia," she adds.

The Constitution and Universal Declaration of Human Rights are the single most important documents for us to understand, she asserts.

"If all children know not only their rights, but also their duties as citizens, it would be a major step in the direction of making India what we all know our country has the potential to become," she stresses.

Sheena studied acting and performed in theatre for five years in Delhi before she was launched as a lead by the South Superstar Mammootty.

She went on to play lead characters in three films by National Award winning directors, including the legendary Buddhadeb Dasgupta from her hometown of Kolkatta and Jayaraj, from Malayalam cinema.

According to the actor, her love of seeking out the various shades and contrasts in characters and then performing them has most recently led her to roles in the recent season of City of Dreams on Disney Hot Star and the forthcoming Finding Anamika on Netflix where she acts alongside super star Madhuri Dixit.

She is also starring in comedy drama -- Lockdown Mei Breakdown -- releasing in January 2022.

Perhaps Sheena's best know character, and one she spent months developing with internationally acclaimed director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki for Ant Story, was one with multiple layers - such a complicated and different character, that it resulted in Sheena being nominated as Best Actress in competition with Kate Beckinsle and Kiera Knightley, at the Shanghai and Dubai Film Festivals.

Sheena has recently shot for the Hollywood film Nomad in the US.
