Pt Viswamohan Bhatt enthral guests at a cultural evening by Suromurchhana US and Kolkata
Kolkata/IBNS: Suromurchhana, a cultural institution supervised by vocalist Pandit Sanjoy Banerjee, recently held a cultural evening to pay tribute to legendary Indian classical singer late Pandit AT Kanan on his 101st birthday.
The cultural evening saw participation from several artists.
Vocalist Dr. Debopam Goswami presented Raga Multani followed by a composition in Raga Gaud Sarang.
He was accompanied by Abhirup Roy on tabla and Anirban Chakrabarty on harmonium.
Anjan Saha played Raga Bhimpalasi on sitar and was accompanied by Rupak Bhattacharjee on tabla.
Noted vocalist Dhananjay Hegde, accompanied by Soumen Sarkar on tabla and Hiranmoy Mitra on harmonium, presented Raga Puriya Dhanashri, which was followed by a small composition in Raga Durga.
Subhajyoti Guha and Somnath Roy presented a duet on table and ghatam, respectively, and were accompanied by Hiranmoy Mitra on harmonium.
The highlight of the evening was a recital by Grammy award winner and Mohan Veena virtuoso Padmabhushan Pandit Viswamohan Bhatt, who was accompanied by noted percussionist Pandit Bickram Ghosh on the tabla.
Pandit Bhatt played Raga Vishwa Ranjani followed by a ‘dhun’ from his Grammy award winning album.
The Kolkata and United States based units of Suromurchhana promote Indian classical music at home and abroad.
Classical singer Nomami Karmakar spearheads the efforts to popularise Indian classical music abroad.
