Kolkata/IBNS: Vande Nrityam, an event organised by Odissi dance exponent, Guru Urmila Bhaumik, returned to the public stage after a gap of four years.

The COVID 19 pandemic had put a brake on this decade-old program held annually in Kolkata.

The programme took off with a short presentation based on a story of initiation into the age-old Mahari dance form.

This was followed by a few Odissi pieces composed by Bhaumik, which she is developing as a new technique to create interest in the dance form among the present generation.

The young dancers in their colourful attire represented the different elements of nature.

Directed and choreographed by Bhaumik, the dance-drama titled 'Prithwi o Prakriti' was written by Dipanwita Roy and set to tune by Joy Sarkar.

Artists Lopamudra Mitra, Subhomita Roy Chowdhury, Indrani Sen, Rupankar, Anidyo Basu, Srikanto Acharya and Joy Sarkar were part of the voice rendering.

Another dance-drama titled 'Aami' was presented by Kohinoor Sen Barat.

Uttiya Jana was in charge of the overall light arrangements.

Music composers Kalyan Sen Barat and Indradeep Dasgupta were present at the event.
