West Bengal State Akademi to host 'Lokshilpa O Karukriti Mela'
The 'Lokshilpa O Karukriti Mela' will showcase a wide range of traditional arts and crafts from almost all districts of West Bengal.
The fair will present — patachitras (scroll paintings) from Paschim Medinipur; numerous decorative items made with sola (spongewood) in Birbhum; with jute in Murshidabad; with wood in Bardhaman; with clay in Nadia and Uttar Dinajpur (by Polia tribals); with grass and buffalo horns in Paschim Medinipur; Dokra metalware, including jewellery, from Bankura and Birbhum; masks from Purulia; masks made with bamboos and wood in Dakshin Dinajpur; bamboo handicrafts from Malda; mats from Paschim Medinipur; shitalpatis from Cooch Behar; kantha and kantha stitch sarees and other items from Birbhum and Bardhaman; Baluchari sarees from Bankura and alpana items from Nadia.
Craftspersons from the Dooars region of northern West Bengal, including those from the Mech, Rava and other communities, will be also present with their handicrafts.
A total of 50 artists, craftspersons and weavers will be themselves present at the exhibition with all these items.
The exhibition will be open from 8 am to 8 pm daily after its inauguration on May 6.
