Kolkata, Nov 18 (IBNS): The Globsyn Business School (GBS), in association with National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN), successfully conducted EMBRYON 2015 – a competition aimed at encouraging its students to meaningfully use their theoretical knowledge, thoughts and imagination in formulating feasible business plans based on a format specified by NASSCOM.

Held at Globsyn Business School’s Amtala campus, EMBRYON 2015 was aimed also at instilling in students a sense of healthy competition.

Team ‘SoleMate’, consisting of Niloy Das, Utsav Basu, Sayantan Das, Saptarshi Sen and Supratim Ghosh, who proposed to design customized shoes for their customers were declared the winners.

In all fourteen teams comprising over 70 students took part in the preliminary rounds.

They were adjudged by a panel of GBS faculty on the basis of the novelty of their ideas and the market feasibility of their plans presented with product prototypes.

Among the innovative ideas presented were: an online parking site, an online food and beverages delivery service, a home maintenance service, packaged mocktails, designer shoes and an online laundry service.

Six teams advanced to the final round and made 15-minute presentations to a panel of judges which included Arijit Bhattacharya, Founder and CEO, Virtualinfocom; Somik Roy, Client Business Partner, Nielson (leading the Nielson-ITC relationship based in Kolkata); and Subhabrata Bhattacharya, Entrepreneurship Consultant of NEN for the Eastern Region.

Speaking about the competition, Somik Roy said, “EMBRYON is a very good idea with great execution,” to which Subhabrata Bhattacharya added, “It is an amazing idea factory.”

Arijit Bhattacharya felt that the ideas presented were nice, but to turn them into viable business models the students should carry out in-depth market study.

Speaking at the event, the Dean of Globsyn Business School, Dr. Subir Sen commented, ‘‘EMBRYON is a major event of GBS organized by the Entrepreneurship Cell under the guidance of a senior faculty coordinator that provides the students a formal platform to nurture and brainstorm their business ideas and present the same before an independent expert panel. The winners get an opportunity to take their ideas forward at various national platforms.”
